Views of Pluto Through the Years

Earlier this week, NASA released its most detailed photos of Pluto to date and when you compare these photos captured by the New Horizons space probe with images of Pluto captured since its discovery in the 1930's, you can really appreciate how far camera technology space exploration and science, in general, has advanced.

The above animation was put together by NASA and it shows various observations of Pluto over the course of several decades. Included in the sequence are shots captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, the NEW Horizon probe and a digital zoom in on Pluto as it appeared on its discovery.

Science Magazine has also released a rather interesting comparison image, over on their Facebook page, which shows how Pluto images looked in 1996, 2005 and 2015.
