Elon Musk has said that his brain chip for controlling a computer with thoughts will be tested on humans within six months.
Musk’s company Neuralink is developing the chip to help disabled patients communicate again. He also unveiled two other devices which he said would be implanted in the spinal cord and eyes which would help people with paralysis and blindness.
Other companies are developing similar devices and are further ahead in the process. Experts believe that Neuralink’s version may have more computing power than rivals but will involve more invasive surgery.
“Even if someone has never had vision, ever, like they were born blind, we believe we can still restore vision,” Musk said in a presentation.
