Renowned semiconductor firm STMicroelectronics(ST) has signed an agreement with Italian firm Oversonic Robotics to introduce RoBee, its custom cognitive humanoid robot, in the manufacturing processes across several ST plants across the world.

The agreement, announced on December 22, marks the first time a semiconductor company will deploy humanoid robots in logistics and production processes in semiconductor factories.

“The partnership with STMicroelectronics is a great source of pride for us because it embodies the vision of cognitive robotics that Oversonic has brought to the industrial and healthcare markets,” said Fabio Puglia, President of Oversonic.

“Being the first to introduce cognitive humanoid robots in a sophisticated production context such as semiconductors means measuring ourselves against the highest standards in terms of reliability, safety, and operational continuity.”

Puglia also stressed the importance of this deployment and how it will help face industrial challenges.

“This agreement represents a fundamental milestone for Oversonic and, more generally, for the industrial challenges these new machines are called to face in innovative and highly complex environments, alongside people and supporting their quality of work,” he continued.

About RoBee

RoBee is the only humanoid robot certified to work in both industrial and healthcare sectors. It is designed to operate autonomously in complex industrial environments safely using intelligence and adaptability.

The humanoid is designed to integrate seamlessly into industrial workflows, enhancing human-machine collaboration across production and logistics operations. It can be deployed in areas where flexibility and reliability hold paramount importance.

RoBee combines AI-based perception, real-time decision-making, and multimodal interaction to drive advanced manufacturing tasks through its cognitive platform.

From pick-and-place operations to real-time data collection in factories, it can cooperate with industrial automation systems across warehouses to support production planning, monitoring, and advanced logistics.

Automation at scale

Fabio Gualandris, President of Quality, Manufacturing, and Technology at STMicroelectronics, highlighted their ability to deploy automation at scale as their differentiating factor for long-term competitiveness.

“A key parameter of the long-term competitiveness of our global advanced manufacturing infrastructure is our ability to deploy automation and robotics solutions at scale. Humanoids integration is the next frontier,” he said.

The 66-year-old stalwart also noted that this deployment will further enhance product quality at ST.

“Oversonic’s cognitive humanoid robots support complex tasks enabling ST to manage complex manufacturing flow required by new products, further enhance product quality and shorten cycle time,” he commented.

“These humanoids’ capability to cooperate with industrial automation and agentics to agentics-based software systems increases employee safety, service continuity, and overall efficiency. With this initiative, and the deployment of the first fleet of humanoids, STMicroelectronics confirms its role as a pioneer in adopting strategic and sustainable technologies to maintain global leadership in the semiconductor industry,” Gualandris continued.

RoBee at CES 2026

In adherence to the agreement, Oversonic Robotics will collaborate with ST at CES 2026 for live demonstrations of the RoBee humanoid robot. It will also display the applications developed for advanced production and manufacturing contexts.

The live demonstration will mark the international launch of the collaboration, with robotic systems engineering and automation specialists from both companies in support. The ST exhibition will be invitation-only, with meetings available by appointment through Oversonic or STMicroelectronics representatives.
